Residential Well

Since 1922, Ortman Drilling has been using new technology along with tried – and – true techniques and equipment to provide the best constructed residential well to our customers. Ortman Drilling began drilling with a custom wooden drilling machine in 1922 and graduated to a direct rotary in 1956, which was one of the first in the state of Indiana.  At Ortman Drilling, we pride ourselves in providing the best workmanship and quality possible for our residential drilling projects. Our highly trained drillers are licensed through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources as well as the National Ground Water Association and have received additional training to improve their craft. We abide by state and local regulations concerning construction and placement of potable water wells in addition to following any applicable local health department ordinance.”

In an effort to prolong the life of our customer’s residential well, we instituted a policy in the 1970s to drill no smaller than a 5” diameter residential well. Installing submersible pumps in wells smaller than 5” can spell disaster in the future when the pump or pumping equipment needs replaced or repaired. To avoid this costly scenario for our customers, we recommend and will only drill 5” or larger diameter wells for residential homes. With nearly a century of experience, Ortman Drilling has put this knowledge to good use for our customers and have drilled over tens of thousands of wells just in the state of Indiana. Ortman Drilling also carries drilling licenses for neighboring states and have been drilling wells according to their state regulations for several decades.

In addition to drilling new wells, Ortman Drilling can also assist with improving your current well’s condition. Overtime, a well’s water production can decrease due to mineral and bacteria buildup. To remove this buildup, we can use one of several available methods to clean the well. Our technicians will employ different discovery tools to determine which cleaning method is better suited for your well.

If your pump intake looks like the picture below, what condition is your well in?
